1. What information is covered by this Privacy Notice?

This Privacy Notice covers all personal information processed by me, which means information that (either in isolation or in combination with other information) enables you to be identified directly or indirectly.


2. Why do I collect information from you?

I may collect personal information from you to:

  • correspond to your enquiry (e.g. availability slot or a quote for editorial services)

  • allow me to contact you during a proofreading project

  • enable certain functions on this website

  • learn how visitors use this website for a better user experience


3. What information do I collect from you?

I collect the following minimal personal information:

  • name

  • postal and email address

  • information suitable to your enquiry (e.g. genre of book, about your project, type of service: sample proofread or full proofread)

  • I use Facebook Pixel to learn about how you use my website. If your web browser is set up to accept cookies, the programme will store a cookie on your computer’s hard drive to monitor the pages you visit and the links you follow.


4. How do I use your personal information?

The processed information is used as follows:​

  • To contact you in response to your enquiry, order, quote, booking or special offer.

  • For my internal accounting processes, for example to invoice you. Also to comply with my tax authority (HMRC) should it request an audit.

  • To record your agreement to the terms and conditions of my editorial services.

  • As for cookie (the Facebook pixel), to create a custom audience for adverts on Facebook and to tailor those adverts to Facebook users’ interests.

Other than the Facebook pixel, I will never process your data for marketing or promotion purposes without your consent in written form (for instance, to publish your testimonial onto my website), or unless you have signed up for notification regarding a specific offer.


5. How do I collect your personal information?

I process and store minimal information about you from the following forms:

  • Contact form through Squarespace

  • Booking confirmation form through Squarespace

  • Author’s style preferences form through Squarespace

  • Email through Google

  • Newsletter sign up through MailChimp

You may request to remove your data from Squarespace or MailChimp at any time.

Your personal information will not be leased, distributed or sold to third parties unless written consent from you, or the law requires me to do so.


6. How do I use cookies?

If your web browser is set up to accept cookies, a cookie (small file) will be stored on your computer’s hard drive when you visit my website. Cookies do not provide me with access to your computer or any information about you other than what you choose to share with me.

The type of cookies I use:

  • Strictly necessary cookies that are required for the operation of my website

  • Performance cookies that recognise and count the number of users to my website and how they navigate my website. These cookies do not collect information that identifies a visitor. This is to improve website usability.

The type of web analytics I use:

  • Google Analytics

  • StatCounter

Facebook advertising:

I plan to use this information to create a custom audience for adverts on Facebook and to tailor those adverts to Facebook users’ interests.

7. How do I store your personal information?

The minimal information I process is stored on the following data servers:

Squarespace is my website host. For more information, please visit Squarespace’s Privacy Notice.

MailChimp is my newsletter-subscription platform. For more information, please visit MailChimp’s Privacy Notice.

Bonsai is the accounting software I use to post invoices. Your name, email address and a project brief are kept. For more information, please visit Bonsai’s Privacy Notice.

Google Drive is my file hosting service. For more information, please visit Google’s Privacy Notice.

PayPal is the password-protected online payment system I use for editorial-services for clients who elect not to be invoiced via direct bank transfer. For more information, please visit PayPal’s Privacy Notice. All PayPal transactions are subject to the PayPal Privacy Notice. Your data will be used for accounting purposes only and will not be disclosed to third parties.

Google Gmail is the email service I use to communicate. For more information, please visit Google’s Privacy Notice.

Data Servers in the United States:

8. How long do I keep your personal information?

I will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary for the purpose for which that data was collected and to the extent permitted by applicable laws. Many clients work with me more than once, so I do not remove data for that purpose, unless specifically requested to remove your personal information from my systems and records.

HMRC requires records to be kept for ‘at least 5 years after the 31 January submission deadline of the relevant tax year’. Please visit ‘How long to keep your records’.

If you request for me to remove or make amendments to your records, and that which it complies with HMRC’s legal requirements, I am more than happy to do so.


9. With whom is your information shared?

Your personal information is shared with no one, unless you consent in written form, or HMRC appoints to audit my business.
